You might ask – what can be sweeter than honey? Two things in my book:
- Real foods. I define “real” as eating food in its most natural state. This is often called “clean eating”. Michael Pollan says it best in his Food Rules book on page 31: “Eat foods made from ingredients that you can picture in their raw state or growing in nature.” When you eat food in its natural state, you will inherently eat healthy, nutritious foods. You will no longer need to worry about “dieting”. This is not a diet, but a daily decision that you make for you and your family. This is not to say that you can never splurge on your favorite foods (I do!), but follow the advice found in Proverbs 25:16, “If you find honey, eat just enough – too much of it, and you will vomit.”
- The Bible. Reading, knowing, and applying God’s Word to my life is sweeter than honey. Psalm 119:103 says: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” More than anything, hiding God’s Word in my heart (Psalm 119:11) is my desire for me and my family. God’s Word teaches us many things, but nothing more important than about His son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 says that God loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross as our substitute because we make choices every day that are sin. If we simply accept God’s gift of Jesus and believe in Him, we will have eternal life (Romans 6:23 and Ephesians 2:8-9).
